I think mopowar stated at one time you could wrap an O2 sensorin foil and reinstall it, but maybe he'll chime in to verify,or pm him.

i say gut it because u still have an easy location to re-install your o2 sensor - this o2 sensor is the only one me and you have - pre-obdII as rabbler said, it sets our AFR and that is all! woot
and is kinda mandatory to make it run correctly
and the cat serves as a y-pipe off of the engine to combine both pipe to one for easy exhaust connection and customization

biggest thing i think here is that the cat that is on there serves as an o2 sensor mounting location already and makes everything less of a headache

u can just cut off your intermediate pipe after the cab(still state State inspection legal as long as outlet is past passenger compartment) and put a turn-down on for now until you fork out some dough for a flowmaster and new pipes.

have a flowmaster exaust (duals)already, it was loud when i got it, but it aint loud enough now. and i dont have to worry about emissions, im exempt. so gut the cat, thats all i should do? Will that make my exaust considerably louder or should i chop the muffler off and just run it all straight

thats up to you
i have a single in 3" dual out 2.5" flowmaster 40
sounds good, and loud!
i have a magnaflow high-flow cat on mine it would be a hella lot louder than it already is if my cat was gutted
i will try and make up a sound/video clip so you all can hear it

i say....
try and remove your pipes, run a straight turn down for now and see how you like it, if u dont like it, then stick pipes back on
either way your gonna have to remove them pipes to get the sh*t outta the cat

will they be okay to gut the cat?
not many shops will do this for you

ummm
im not really sure how much
shouldnt be too much for just an open and close

i do recommend leaving the muffler on the truck IF you are leaving the duals out the back.

i was working on tranny on a truck like ours like a week ago that had no muffler and just duals and stock cat and test drove it and it was acutally pretty quiet... some sound, but not a whole lot...

do you have a flowmaster 40?
if you are going to just dump it after cab, just straight pipe it and a turndown.

BUT you DO want to have SOME backpressure on these engines...soooooo
prob just leave the duals in with a 40 and you should like it pretty well. - best approach in my opinion.

what is the whole set up you have now?
size of pipe, etc
