Default Daytime running lights

Hi there. The other day I did some running around town and noticed my high beam indicator light was dimly on, without the headlights being turned on even with the key off. After a fews minutes it went out. But now my daytime running lights are out. Headlight high/low work fine. Where would I start looking for the problem? Wiring really isn't my strong area, Thanks.

It must be a Canadian vehicle. Daytime running light have been mandatory up here since 1990.
It's probably the daytime running module under the hood shorted out. It's a small black box about 4"x3". I think its located on the driver side by the under hood fuse and relay center. It might be real hot if it's shorted so be careful handling it.

FIRST POST for me on this GREAT SITE!!!

Bought used 97 RAM LARAMIE with 124,000KM(77,000miles) about 3 weeks ago and today the first gremlin popped up. Do a search on here and this first post is EXACTLY my problem....suspected it had something to do with the DRL's but didn't know where the BOX for it was. Read Rabbler post and proceeded to check for it. Sure enough the box was too hot to touch.

Next up a new thermostat 180*F one ...since mine right now seems to sit at about 96*C or 205*F

I just fixed my Daytime Running Light module, I took it apart as it wasn't working so I figured I had nothing to loose. I found a loose ceramic cap (cold solder joint) and had to replace the transistor next to that cap. I put it together and now Daytime Running lights now working.
If anyone has one not working might be worth a look. Can't seam to be able to get new one and used ones are $100, and who knows how long they will last.

I think I have the same problem. How did you get the circuit board out of the case? Mine is filled with gunk.
Thanks for your help.

I just slowly started cutting the potting compound out with a knife and used a piece of mig wire to release the circuit board. It's a little time consuming because you don't want to damage the circuit board.

Thanks for the advice. I got the board out. Just wondering about selection of a replacement transistor. It is obviously a MOSFET but the numbers on mine, 31-1 and V351 provide no hits of reference information so wondering what you used. Thanks again for your help.

Here is the link to the part I used in my Daytime Running Light module https://canada.newark.com/infineon/b...-to/dp/50Y1843 . There is a ceramic cap about a 1/4 inch in diameter, was yours loose? I think the loose cap could be why the
MOSFET goes.

Yes, the capacitor was loose. I replaced the Mosfet with this one, https://www.infineon.com/dgdl/irlz44...53567217c32725, which I obtained locally and it got taken out as soon as the driving lights came on so I'm thinking I have a problem downstream. Will investigate further. Thanks for your help.
