i did not know they made them in 97 i thought it was only 96 model....but i saw one a while back that was extended cab and i did not think they made them either.
it's kinda hard to find info on them....like the SS/T's you will have to go to google and search for a while until you find some info.

Hey i happen to have a 97 richard petty edition. I am the second owner. Previous owner said he bought it up in tennesee, at a dodge/chrysler dealership. In 96 i read online from a guy on ebay that was selling a 96, that there were 1400 made in 96. Previous owner of my truck said that there were 500 made in 97. My truck hauls *** with a 5.9 liter engine, 365 hp stock + i put a max horsepower chip in so i always so close to 400. Low end torque isnt that great but when im up and goin, well no one has beat me yet. I especially love smokin those stupid new hemi trucks man they think there fast lol. Actually it kicks me back more when i floor it at 70 mph rather than off a dead stop. Fun to smoke the tires....um....i got 80k miles on it, not to bad. I also plan to sell it when richard petty dies, dealership in tenesee said it would be worth triple (dont know bout that). Anything else you wanna know just ask. Oh ya and its all black not red like the 96's.

What's the deal with these trucks? I suppose it has a performance package on it, but is there a neato graphics package as well? I would have expected a Petty edition to come in Petty blue with a Superbird decal on it.

Well i still havent got a hold of my friends camera yet but heres a link to some pics of the 96's, same emblems as me which include a richard pety signature and #43 on top of the ram 1500 logo, a circle with richard petty's head in the middle towards the tail lights (sounds dumb but looks kool), the decal richard petty signature series (directly behind where im standing in the current avatar), has a body kit on it, and on the wood grain leather interior it has richard petty signature on the head rests, heres the link to a 96 ( i think he customed the bed cover though) http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/454512/13

I've never heard of the Petty edition before, so thanks for the info. That's a pretty sweet truck.

be a nice truck to have for sure. ive got a plain old 96 myself, red as well.

love the hood and the seats. the only things i do not like about this truck are the side steps/fender flares, and those tiny tiny wheels and tires. other than that it is a sweet truck.

i had a chance to buy one here in alabama about a year ago, but i have my SS/T and could not afford the extra ¢ at the time, and my wife didn't like the leather, but i did it is a real nice set-up.

1996 44,000 miles 318 single traction price was $12,000 i think (good buy)

i was under the impression they all had 318 with no real performance upgrades...i learn something new every day.
