ok... i've been leaking diff fluid out of my pinion seal for about 2 weeks now. nothing really too bad, but today i decided to check and make sure that i'm not too low.
not only was i too low but apparently i was over filled!!! i pulled the plug out and fluid leaked out everywhere.how the hell did that happen? i had pulled my diff cover last year and filled it myself. plus, how the hell could i fill it up past the hole?
any suggestions???

Unless there's an assload of water in there too I'm all out of ideas. Either way it's time to crack that baby open and clean it out. Put a new gasket on the cover and put a real good RVT seal around the whole thing. Torque the cover bolts back down to 35 ft/per pound and refill. Definetly check out the gears while you're in there. If there's water in there they could be fubar.

Was the oil a milky gray color? That's usually the sign of water in the diff oil, you're lucky you didn't burn up the gears! You'll need to check all of your axle seals, and be generous with the RTV when you seal it back up. I'd also check it after a week or 2 to see if you worked out any extra water.
