Default Crankshaft sensor

I just changed a Crankshaft Position Sensor on a 2000 Ram Quad Cab. What a pain of a job. There must be an easier way then I chose to change it. What would be the proper way to change that sensor?

I could barely reach it, the grommet fell into the torque converter hole, etc. What a bitch of a job. I thought there might be an easier way to get it out.
