Anybody know who makes fuel pumps for Mopar?
Hey All,
I'm having a problem with my fuel pump. It's not keeping pressure in the line when I shut her down for any lenthy period of time. Runs fine after I prime the system at start. But I'm getting tired of that.
My question is. Who makes fuel pumps for Mopar? I'm debating on if I should buy a Mopar part, or aftermarket part. Who knows, maybe one of the aftermarket companys is the original manufacter for Mopar.
So maybe I can save a hundred bucks.
Or should I just go with a Mopar Part.
Thanks all.
Oh yeah its a 2000 ram 4x4 360 with a 26 gal tank.

How would the fuel pump keep pressure if you shut down? As soon as your key is off, your pump is no longer getting 12v to keep it running. Is it hard to start?
There's a one way valve on the fuel pump assembly that keeps the fuel in the line between the tank and engine.
when I shut her down all the gas drains back into the tank due to gravity. She starts great once I prime the system. i.e. turn the key to the on position three times, then to start. She fires up great.

I experienced this same problem about 18 months ago in my 1997 Ram with 82K miles. The pump would go up to ~46 psi and drop to 0 psi once the pump stopped. I was hesitant to purchase an aftermarket pump because the truck ran well once it started. Being a little thrifty and curious, I decided to drop the tank and remove the pump. I purchased 2 cans of carb cleaner and sprayed the inside and outside of the pump clean. More brown residuecame out than I anticipated. I then pressurized the output side of the pump with air to seat the check ball. Then I sprayed the inside cleana few more times. Again I was suprised at the junk the came out. I cleaned the tank out too and used fresh gas when I installed everything.
To this day, I have not had a single issue with the pump or fuel pressure. I am at 97K miles now. The trucks starts like it did when it was new. I may even pull the pump over the winter to clean it again; we'll see. Maybe this will work for you too.
Good Luck.

My fuel pump is from AutoZone. They have or had two different manufacturers available. I believe Master is the cheaper. The one that I went with. It's supposedly the same company that makes oem parts but not sure. Anyway, within a few months, my fuel gauge stopped registering correctly. It never drops below 1/2 tank. So now, I go by miles and keep a log of milage so I know where I'm at fuel wise. I also carry a spare can. You pay the price going cheap at AutoZone.
Did I say AutoZone parts are shi

Well I tried what jimmy52dodge did to his truck. Thanks for the suggestion by the way.
It worked for little while, then back to the some old problem. So the next time I drop the tank I'll be replacing the fuel pump assembly. It should go pretty quickly now that I have done it once before.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!
