Default Plenum Pan Gasket

I am replacing the plenum pan and gasket on my dad's truck. I thought that I remembered reading somewhere that I needed to put some sealant somewhere when reinstalling the plenum gasket or manifold gasket. But I can't seem to find that thread back again, and don't remember for sure which place I needed to put it. Also needed to know what kind of sealent, copper or the regular black? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Put a dab of RTV on each corner where the heads meet the block. RTV can also be used as an end seal ( the flat area between the heads at the front and rear of the engine)
Depending on you gasket kit you may have rubber end seals but I prefer to you RTV. (sometimes the rubber seals squish out over time)

Black RTV is OK but grey or high temp RTV is better

Thanks! So just put some of the grey or high temp rtv on the corner of where the heads meet the block? I had already read the write-up, that's what used to take it apart. But just didn't see anything in there about the RTV. Thanks again!!

yup, a dab of rtv (I use grey or orange) on the corners of the end gaskets where the block meets the heads is all you need.

I have the Permatex Brand "Sensor-Safe Ultra Copper High Temp RTV Silcone."Is that right, don't know what color the stuff is on the inside, haven't opened it yet. Just bought it when I picked some of the stuff up the other day because I thought that is the kind that I read to get. Thanks again!!!

So far so good, just put the Hughes plenum pan and gasket on. Probably not gonna be able to finish it til tommorow cause I only have an hour or so left.. But your how to is very easy to follow, so thanks to you all smooth so far!!!

that should work fine. thanks for the feedback! I know there has been a ton of people using it (have no idea how many) and have had some PM's thanking me for the writeup. my only regret was not having the DIY setup like I currenlty do where I can go and edit the post to fix any problems. The ones I do now allow me that so I can fix it if needed.

Finished the job this afternoon. Truck started up and ran fine, although I was running a tight scedule to get to work on time, so I only got to let it run for a minute or so. Gonna run a can of Seafoam through and change the oil tommorrow, Saturday, and take it for an actual drive. Thanks again for all the help and the wonderful DIY guide!!!
