Steve told me once max voltage from the stock was 25K. The stock replacement coil from MSD (#8228) puts out 35K. I believe the turn ratio is 72:1.
The Blaster 2 and 3 coil (Blaster 3 is 8223) put out 45K and has a
100:1 turn ratio.

It's never too much, MWAHAHA!!!!
Actually, the spark plug has a resistor in it so as soon as a voltage exceeds that amount, the spark jumps. The higher voltage and higher turn ratio ensure a both a solid spark and a fast recharge so you should get a more consistant spark at high RPMs and if there was some sort of impedance that the stock coil couldn't overcome.
I don'tt think you can over-volt the system.

I went the easy way and put in the Accel Super coil (140021 for '90-"97) rated at 42,000 volts and used the Accel harness adapter (140021AH for '98+). No splicing, plugs right in. Been in a couple of years with no problems. No matter which route you go it is a good investment. My truck used to crap out at about 4,000 rpm (acted like it had a governor). Once I replaced the coild revs right up to redline (which I try not to do to often).
