Exactly... and you do that on what? a 2.5 in pipe? so add haf an inch for the 3 inch pipe... so 4.5 inch tips. That was the idea one big *** pipe. I like that look. (except the diesel might have a 4.5 pipes on duals) Can't help it.

It's all preferance really though. I mean honestly, exhaust really does not affect performance THAT much, it's really just a base step when it comes to performance. Obviously if you dig heavily into mods, then the more important your exhaust will become. Other than though, you will only lose/gain minimal results in different parts of the powerband. I've seen it all, we've run si/so systems, si/do systems, and then true duals, and there are really minor differances, and all of them sound pretty much the same in loudness. So it is all about what looks best to you, and what you want. Like steveo said, pick where you think you want your performance level at. Really though, with a truck, most of it no matter what, will be low end torque, it just what happens with a v8 pickup truck lol. Exhaust systems in my view though, are very overhyped. Personally, I did my exhaust system for loudness and looks. I knew it wasn't going to give me that much horsepower. It sounds VERY loud, and it looks really awesome, but I didn't notice anything too incredible. Obviously as I get more mods like a intake kit, headers, and a chip etc. then the exhaust system will become more valuable, but nothing too crazy.
I disagree... when I ran a dual 2.5"out flowmaster setup my top end performance rocked, it was much stronger up there. the downside was the low end torque dropped off and I lost 1~1.5 mpg. I had the exhaust shop take the 2.5's down to 2.25" ea and it helped out the low end alot but took away from the top end. plus I got back 1.0~1.25 mpg. I have never run true duals so Icant comment on performance with them... but the single setup made a difference in the way it was configured.

when I got my diesel, I lost my cat & went to a straight thru setup, 4" all the way. Same results as the 2000 5.9 gasser. top end screamed, bottom end was lost. added in an aero 4040 where the cat was and it helped out alot as well. same results as the gasser, top end dropped off some & the bottom end came back (along with mileage as well).

Our trucks seem to benefit more from single exit exhaust, true dual sounds awesome but I do believe you lose a bit of power.
i doubt i would see any more of a gain with a single. true duals ftw!

I understand you gain some and you lose some. But in the cheme of things, it is still relatively minimal all around. It all depends about how many mods you have as well. For some, a 2.5" true dual would probably be a bad choice if they didn't plan to build their truck up. But if they were deiciding to build it up more, then the true dual would be the correct choice considering the engine would need at SOME POINT, need the true dual to exit the excess air. I guess basically, if you aren't going to build your engine up real good, dont go for the true dual. If you don't plan to go past headers and intake, then I think a si/so or si/do will be completely adequate enough to accomodate for your overall stock engine, no questions.

Wow, thanks for all the great advice fella's. Alot of you guys have asked me what else I plan to mod on the truck. Like I said above I have already picked up a Fastman TB and I have a K&N FIPK on the way. Eventually I want to get a Summit Distributor, Accel extreme 9000 wires, some Autolite 3923's, and Perma-Cool electric fans. I think after all that I will be out of money for the truck (probably sooner). So basically my modding will be the bolt-on type without any engine work. I would like to keep my powerband low-mid and stay away from it being all high. Again, thanks for the info.

If thats the case, go for the fastman 50 mm, and dont bother with headers. And the ignition will be pointless as well. The headers bump up your power band, and the 52mm feeds the up top, and kinda smothers the down low (on a stocker). The ignition is worthless because theres really no point in having an upgraded ignition system when your not going to use it. When your revin high, you want the ignition system to be right on. Down low, they all are about equal, stock or aftermarket.

Neon you make a good point... if the overall plan is to keep it mild then I'd agree to stick with a single exhaust setup, whether it's dual out's or single out. If your gong wild then the dual's I'd think would be the way to go...
