dodge ram v10 questions....
hows it going guys, i just picked up a 99 ram 2500 v10, i know nothing at all about these motors, i have always just owned the 5.9's so my questions basically are, istheir any know problems with the v10, whats it usually get for gas miliage, whats its towing capacity, and so on and so forth, basically everyhting you guys know about the v10 would help me out, thanks in advance guys. btw here is a pic of it.
I have two 2001 dodge ram 2500's with V10s. I havent had any issues with either of them. The Auto Trannys tend to go bad on v10's, but I havent had that problem yet. If you tow frequently I would change out and use high quality transmission fluid and look into a tow kit. Mileage sucks, but its only abnout 2 mpg off from my 1996 v8 5.9l 2500. The v10's are powerful, dependable engines. I'm pretty sure that they did an upgrade on the brakes in 2000, so you might have braking issues including pulling and wear. You may want to invest in higher grade brakes when you go to replace. They had quite a few complaints of pull when stopping and that the brakes were not HD enough for the 6000+lb weight of the truck. One of my v10's is auto and the other 5speed. depending on your exact model your towing capacity is around 13k lbs.

I've had zero problems with the v10 engine. I would recommend synthetic oil and a K&N cold air intake. It gets about 10 mpg with the oversize tires and as low as 8 mpgtowing my 11 000 lbs 5th wheel.
I've replaced the TSP, rear speed sensor, AC compressor, track bar,one tie rodand brakes frontand back.
