Would 4 wheel parts carry parts for 2wd? If so, the name's somewhat misleading.

I just talked to a budy of mine who says that a recalibration of the computer would probably fix the problem. He said gears are only for major performance changes and the higher i go the better the gas mileage would be.

the higher meaning the less difference between the numbers. like 3.55:1 compared to 4.10:1 which is considered a lower gear..meaning more gear reduction. the reason why gears will fix your problem is because when you go to a bigger tire size you change your final gear ratio. To get your final gear ratio back to stock or almsot stock or less then stock, you change the gears.
The reason why your friend says that a higher gear will give you better gas milage is becuase your engine will be turning less rpms at highway speeds, but you will lost low end torque. Ever heard any one talk about old chevys or old trucks in general saying that it has highway gears and doesn't tow worth Sh*t?
if you want to try the speedo calibration, do so and see if it fixes your problem. If you don't want to change your gears it's your choice my friend. it's your truck and your money. Not to mention it'll help your truck from wondering between gears going up and down hills, and will save your transmission.
Let us know if the speedo calibration works though

I think you could have been safe with a calibration with smaller tires, but when you are running giant tires (35/12.5's), that is a BIG DIFFERANCE. I think you will need at least 4.10 gearing. This way you keep your great torque off the line, and have more highway speeding. It's one of the best compromises. 4.10's, or 4.56's.

All the PCM mods, and all thebolt on performance goodies (with the exception of a supercharger) will not make up for the loss of torque you gave up with those big tires. You need gears, and honestly, 4:56's are the best choice for your truck. Your ram simply isn't producing the power (not justhorsepower) to get out of it's own way at 65 mph.
Your engine is lugging at 1500 rpm, and switching the OD off will put the motor almost out of it's torque curve. Both areas are hard on yourmotor, and deadly for your tranny. Proper gearing solves these issues.
