ORIGINAL: XXL 1500

i have heard good and bad things about phoenix transmissions...
your decision...
have you contacted the "big name" yet about this?

318+360 same tranny same wiring
I did call the "big name" initially ... their response was "bring it in and we'll take a look at it, the warranty is expired but we'll take care of you". What I am worried about is if I take it there, they disassemble the tranny ... and then ask for another $1800 to rebuild it again. I am going to call them up again, ask them to run diagnostics but do no work without a firm estimate of repair cost.

If I could even locate another tranny at a resonable price I'd just swap them out ... but I'm not finding any locally. I swapped a 4.3L and 700R4 into a Jeep YJ, so a tranny swap in a Ram should be easy even without a garage to work in. [:@]

Well the truck has reverse again!

I took the truck back to the "big name" shop and expected the worst. They checked it out and gave me the news ... cracked reverse servo piston ... and that they'd give me $50 off since they rebuilt it ... so, the total damage to my wallet was $383. Not near as bad as I was expecting ... and even better they had it fixed that day (Friday). Tranny seems to shift fine, I have reverse so I'm happy. Now, I'm working on the other issues that needed attention ... replacing a hub/bearing assy and u-joint at the left front. I'll finish that job up this evening ... just in time for snow in the forcast for Tuesday.

$849 shipped 46RE sounds good to me. Also good to know if my tranny goes out.

Contact these guys as they have a used tranny right now. Not sure how close this is to you.

Dansers Auto Repair & Salvage USA-PA(Greensburg) E-mail 1-724-834-6670 / 1-866-4Danser (1-866-432-6737)

Do a search on www.car-parts.com. I've always had luck locating parts on that site.

BTW, I feel your pain as I had to replace my 46re in my 01. Went with the "Pure Evil" one from Dr. Evil. I am very happy with it. Good luck.
"FRUITPORTCAT" - looks like we both like the same site.
