Default Fuel injector plug removal

I cannot figure out how to remove the fuel injector plugs. It is a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2L engine. I tried pushing in on the black clip and lifting up on the red clip but it wont come off and i dont want to damage it. Any help is appreciated.

Post a pic. This doesn't make sense. Are you talking the electrical plug that connects to the injector? Just squeeze the tabs in tight and it should unsnap.

I think you have to pull the Red locking tab up then you can press the tab the releases the connector. It can be a PITA

The newer trucks have a different style locking connector than the older ones

Slide the red tab upward carefully (I broke 3 replacing the plenum gasket, they're just clip locks)and then wiggle them out. The injector plugs get gunky and stuck from all the crap that flys around in your engine bay, you can clean them with CRC lectra motive electric parts cleaner.

first remove the air box, the trottle body, then unbolt the 4 bolts holding the fuel rail on. then you can disconnect the fuel line (after you bleed the pressure). i don't disconnect the fuel line myself, because if you don't have the tool for it, you have to use 2 common screwdrivers. it works well for cleaning the injectors, but if you want to clean the fuel rail, then disconnect the fuel line. then pull them up one side at a time, by gently pulling and wiggling the rail. once you get them out, there are clips holding them onto the fuel rail. just pop the clip off by pushing on the opened end. (make sure once you pull the injectors out of the fuel rail, that both o-rings are still on the injector, and not in the fuel rail ports). when you are done cleaning them, make sure you put a small amount of clean oil on the o-rings. this helps them pop right into place without tearing the o-ring. then just put all the parts back on, and you should be done!

If the 2000 fuel rail is anything like the 1997, use your DAMNED HAND to remove the clip[:@][:@][:@] You don't need that "special tool"

the safety clip from the fuel line connector to the fuel rail is easy to remove using your hand. it's the fuel line itself that has 2 prongs inside holding it to the fuel rail that is tricky.

Must be a design change. On mine, she just pops right out. Getting it back into place is a real trick.

i called the dealership when i was figuring out how to take mine off, and they said to use the 'special tool'. then they went on about how i could use 2 screwdrivers etc., but if i did that it would break it. the 2 screwdrivers worked like a charm, and no damage. it beats paying the $$$ for labor costs. haha.
