FUEL PUMP PROBLEM

RE: FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
I haven't seen a check engine light so I shouldn't have any codes
FYI, the starting problem is when I first turn the key, it just cranks without firing. If I just crank it for a couple seconds, shut it off, crank it again a few times, it will start to fire a little. I usually have to cycle it two or three more times before it actually starts. It acts like the fuel check valve isn't doing it's job so the fuel has to pump all the way back up from the tank every time. Once it starts, it runs just fine.
there is a check valve in the pump assembly that keeps fuel in the lines so startup is easier. that valve is probably leaking and your pump is having to fill the lines before starting.

RE: FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
OK 66Deuce, it looks like I might owe you an apology. On the way into work this morning, the Chk. Eng. light came on and the code was P0401 - EGR system fault.
The explanation was, "The ECM has detected too little flow on the EGR system."
The probable causes:
1. Blocked passage on EGR system
2. Failed EGR Valve
3. EGR solenoid faulty
4. Failed EGR pressure sensor (where applicable)
5. Failed EGR position sensor (where applicable)
I'm going to hunt around and see what others have said about this EGR code. If you guys have any more clues, I'd appreciate it if you can share them with me.

RE: FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
Both of the screens looked clean and it pumped gas just fine when I hooked it up to the battery.
I pulled the EGR valve off and the plunger valve was sticky so I sprayed cleaner in there and kept moving it. It freed up nicely so I put it back together and found a crack in a plastic vac hose that connects from underneath the intake manifold to what I think is the EGR pressure sensor. Black plastic unit that goes between the manifold and the EGR valve vac lines. I bet that's what made the light come on so I spliced the cracked plastic vac line together and tried her again. It's still doing the same thing, so no improvement yet.
Still waiting for the new pump to arrive.
