Default Ram 1500 v8 starting issue

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum. I have a 99 ram 1500 and it has a few problems the biggest one being. everytime I attempt to connect the battery cables the truck turns over, and the keys are in my pocket. I have changed the starter thinking maybe it was an internal issue on the starter but that did not work. All the fuses looked good so now I am at a loss???
Any feedback would be a great help. Thank for your time guys.

When you put the key in the ignition does it act like it is catching the way it should? Or does it move freely through the motion?

Ignition switch or starter relay (or somehow the solenoid wire got crossed with the primary power cable).

When I put the key in it turns like normal so there doesnt appear to be any damage to the ignition switch. I will try replacing the starter relay next then the ignition switch if that doesnt work. I'm almost positive the solenoid wire didnt get crossed with the primary power cable. Thanks 4 the help so far gentlemen. I will keep in touch.
