Default 318 to 360 swap and pcm question

well i see my truck made it on the forum for a 318-360 question. The truck is a 2001ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 sport318 with the automatic in it. Paul put in a 360 out of a 98 jeep grand cherokee limited in it. he changed out the fuel injectors, motor mounts and header seeing they were diffrent in some way from what the truck was. I just want to make sure that when he put the engine in that there isnt anything needed (needed to be changed) before i go and drive it away. the 360 has a mopar performance cam installed in it and i have a k&n intake along with the jet chip........... no other mods.

I also would like to know where to get a proper pcm for the truck. it still has the 318 that has "authorized software upgrade" sticker on it. Ive read past posts but it seems like everyone knows the deal with the death flash deal but me.

so any help would be great. i just dont want a breakdown after i leave pauls house........... ive done the walk of shame once this year.........in colorado!

thanks all
jeff

Default RE: 318 to 360 swap and pcm question

WHen the swap was completed the 318 crankshaft damper and flexplate had to be replacd with those for a 360. The 318 is an internally balanced engine while the 360 is an externally balanced engine. I did the same swap in my 2001 a couple years ago. Your 318 ECM will work and in time will learn the fuel curve needed for your engine. However, a 360 ecm from a 2001 will work better. For 2001 there are multiple versions of ECM and you need to know the manufacture date of your truck in order to purchase the correct ECM. I sent in my 318 ECM to B&G and had a custon flash installed on it.
To recover from the death flash requires a minor modifiaction the the crankshaft position sensor. Do a search here in the forum and you will find detailed instructions on how to perform the modification.
