Default 96 ram check engine light

I havent logged on in about a year, jsut got the truck back on the road in the last few motnhs.
yeaterday i was on a 1 hour drive. truck drove great the whole way. when i got into town and pulled up to the traffic lights, it started idling horrible. if i put it in park it seems to idle ok, but not in d or n. about 5 min alter the check engine light came on. checked all fluids, pressure, temp, voltage, everything seems good. disconnected the battery and the engine light went away for a while. still didnt run very wel. now the light is on again and its running like crap.

any idea what i can check? the garage cant even run the codes for 4 or 5 days.

email me if you like at:

thanks

Welcome back!
Can you retrieve the codes by doing the on-off-on-off-on again with the key to get the CEL to flash the code? If so, it will at least give you a place to start.

so this looks like code 43. this is what i found:
[*]43 Peak primary coil current not achieved with max dwell time
OR[*]43 Cylinder misfire
OR[*]43 Problem in power module to logic module interface

now how can i narrow this down some more?

ok, so i checked codes again, looks like its a 34 and not a 43

43 talks about an egr solonoid, but looks as though that only goes to 1991. i cant find a list with 34 for my year

Code #34 - Open or shorted condition detected in the speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits.

You may want to try looking over the vent tubing throughout the engine compartment. If it is all the original tubing, you may find a lot of it will be dry rotted with numerous cracks / leaks. I would start with this even if someone comes up with a more specific suggestion for your problem.
