Heater Control Help
I just got my new truck, and I have a few problems with it. Its a 99 2500. The heat is always on, even if you movethe dialto cold, and the fan dial only works on high. Are these related? I love the truck, just wish it didn't have these problems. What would cause this? I don't know where to start, as this is the newest dodge I've owned. Also, what is the best tranny fluid to use for a 5 speed stick? Thanks,
Robb

I would bet that you have two problems:
1.The fan only works on high. Almost certain that your blower resisitor is bad, needs to be replaced. A bad blower resistor will give the symptom of the fan only working on high.
2. The air temp is always warm. Does the air temp change at all when you move it to cold? Even slightly? If not, it is most likely the blend door. The blend door in the HVAC unit is what controls the temp of the air coming out. The HVAC unit has two devices inside, a heater core (where the heat comes from) and an evaporator (where the cold comes from). The blend door is in between the core and the evap. As you move the temp dial towards cold, the door blocks the heat form the core and as you move the dial towards hot, the door moves to block the cold from the evap. If the temp does change some, but is not really that cold, you also may have an AC issue.
Not sure what the manual trans uses.
Hopefully this helps.

Thanks, I'll just add the resistorto the list ofthings to get from the dealer. As for the heat, it is always hot no matter where the setting is. When I got it, I put a vice grip on the heater hose to stop the heat. It will only come out lukewarm if I have the AC on also. I took out the climate control part, and it is all electronic. Is there a motor for the blender? I thought because of this that it has a water valve for cutting off the coolant flow, at least thats how my 78 Magnum did it. I guess I will just have to get a Haynes. Is there some Dodge service manuel online? That would be cool. Thanks.
