true dual questions about 02 sensor
hey guys i havea 95 ram 4x4 with single exhaust with a magnaflow on it now. i want to put it to true dual i bought the cats n muffler already now im just wondering what do i do about the o2 sensor i only have one so can i but a splitter to make two or only put it on one cat? help please
I've read through other posts that in any situation, you would just install the same number of sensors in the same position they were in before. It shouldn't matter which side of the duals you put it in if your truck only has one sensor, just make sure that if it is a pre-cat sensor it is installed to still be a pre-cat sensor and not as a post-cat sensor. Theoretically both sides of the engine are going to be running the same so only one side could be monitored.
I could be wrong but I think if you try to parallel 2 sensors when the truck only came with one, it may end up causing the signal to be wrong going back to the PCM and cause other issues.
At any rate, this is my $.02 worth of advice and what I would do if I had no other input on the subject. Hopefully one of these gurus on here will be able to give you a more informed answer on this. I am only writing on what I remember seeing on previous posts on the subject.

Would there be enough exhaust gas flow over the sensor if installed in an h-pipe for it to read accurately? I could see how it would work with the x-pipe just fine though since there would be plenty of flow. Just curious...
LOL...OBD I read accurately ? .. mite get away with running a h-pipe but duals be better with an x-pipe .. do you have emmsions where you live ? if so check the laws in most cases you cant change the setup before the cat only after.

sorry guys about the delayed input uhm ya im running two cats two mufflers. what are the dissadvantages if any to not running an h pipe and just duals all the way back.

okay
if your truck is a 95...
it does not matter where is the entire pipe BEFORE the CAT you have the sensor mounted...
theses OBD1 electrical systems are very basic and simple...
as long as it has A reading... it is okay and no Check Engine light...
but make sure it is at least mounted somewhere...
if not it is going to run like ***
....ummm now that i am thinking about it... you are going to be the guinea pig because im not 100% positive that
if you put that one o2 sensor in just one bank of the exhaust... it might take longer for the exhaust to heat up the sensor
to being reading...
you know how your truck runs kinda rougher when first cold and started up?
that is because the PCM is making hte truck run very rich until the o2 sensor is heated up and begins reading...
newer truck have a HEATED oxygen sensor that reads almost immediately-hence no severe rich start up
so.. it might take longer for the truck to run normal when at first cold start up....
Good Luck.. im sure you will be okay!

ooooo ok thanks alot man that helps out alot. lol that explains the crappy start ups i get i was just assuming that it was the 305k on it or the fact that two of the cylinders have low compression:P but cool now i understand the heated o2 sensor thing. thanks alot guys im going to my exhuast shop this week to check out prices. anyone no what there like? i want it to just exit right before the rear tires like i have now. its not that much custom bending. and i live in canada . yay canadian dollar:P
