Default Check Engine Light

I have a 98 Ram 1500. The CEL just came on and I would like to diagnose the problem.

Thanks

You are a card!

CEL is on...do you have a code reader? If so, whats your numbers? If not, get into the zone! They'll read it FREE!

First you need to find out what code is there. If you don't have a Scanner, sometimes you can goto local auto parts store ( I Mass we have Autozone ) they will read and clear code for you for FREE. Remember code and Post it back on here.

You can also cycle the ignition key off-run-off-run-off-run then the CEL will flash, you count the flashes and get the codes without going anywhere. When the CEL flashes it will flash 1-9 times then a short pause and 1-9 times if there are more than one codes then you will have a longer pause between sets of flashes. Using this process you will get two digit codes and you can use these to trobleshoot your trucks problem.

Thanks for the information. I tried to cycle the ignition, and got nothing, so I will go to autozone and get the codes.

Thanks again

Sorry, I thought it worked for a few years after OBD II, I'll have to check it out on my 98 when I get home.
