newbie questions
hey all im Mike. Ok, so theres a 95% chance that im buyin a 1994 1500 with a 5 speed and a 5.9. Heres the questions: (i got a few of em) I want to run 35's and i beleive i need 5 inches of lift minimum for this. I have heard about shackle lifts. Can i do this? and how much lift will that get me? if i needed to i would do the body lift but i want to avoid that if possible. How would i switch the tranny to auto? I like manual and all but i feel that an auto will be better for wheelin. Am i wrong here? or is it personal preferance? I was thinking about putting a floor shifter like b&m or something since the floor is already cut out for the stick. help and opinions are very much appriciated. Oh, one other thing, the chassis has about 130,000 miles on it but the engine has about 15000 miles. Im buying the truck from my dad for about 2500 bucks. Good deal you think?
welcome to DF... double check the 5.9 part, I dont think the 5.9 was ever an option with a 5 speed in a 1500. you can check the block above the starter and it will say 360 on it. it sounds like a good deal, did your dad put the 360 in it?
the wheeling and MT vs AT I think is a personal preference. the AT's are a weak link in the rams and getting a manual is a good thing.

personally i love wheel a manual but like steve said its all person preference. i would def consiter staying with the manual for strenth and reliabily reasons. also if ur putting 35's on it with stock gearing. the manual is gunna take it alot better and u will still be able to get the truck moving. an auto with stock gears and 35's is a complete dog.
you can put 35's on with 3 in of lift, (thats what i have) your gonna loose some power for it thow, check the gear ratio in it 4.10 is ideal however the 5 speed will give you a little more as well as if you have a 360
yeah so i found out that my step bro was wrong in the info he gave me, its got the 318 in it, not the 360. too bad but what ever. so gearing is probably the first thing i want to change. i agree with ryans590 that 4.10's would rock out but i almost wanna go lower, like maybe 4.11 or maybe even 4.33's if they make em for the dodge. what rear end is in the 1500's?
4.10 and 4.11 are the same thing just depends on who did the calciulation (number of teeth on ring divided by number pf teeth on pinion) and how they rounded it, now if your going to use it as a DD and not mostley off road 4.10 will prob be the best setup for it, being a 1500 its got a chrysler 9.25 rear end and a dana 44 front end, there is lots avalable for the dana 44 however not too much for the 9.25 your options are 3.55 (whitch you prob have now), 3.90, 4.10(4.11), 4.55(4.56), 4.88. there isent any 4.33 aval. for it and 4.55 would be too much for a DD
