Default strange ticking grinding noice!

drive an 01 4x4....a noise has just popped up. It sounds like its somewhere in my driveline. Its nots a engine tick! It sounds like someone pulled a sparkplug off and it dead firing. Its not constant. I cant hear it at high speeds. It stops when i let off the gas but comes back if i press hard on the brakes.????? any advice? I wouldnt think it was a bearing cause its doesnt sound like one. Im starting to get a slight vibration in the front at low speeds.

Check the knuckle U-joints in the front axle. They go all the time and make a godawful crunching/sqeaking/grinding on turns. Usually not noticeable going straight, though. But nonetheless.....

I'm guessing a front wheel barring, or u-joint or both

to check the front end, lift up one wheel at a time and first wiggle the tire side to side (hands at 3 and 9 o'clock) if there is play there you have a bad tye rod end, grab top to bottom (hands at 12 and 6 o'clock) and wiggle if there is play you have a bad wheel barring or ball joint, if play top to bottom then pull/push in and out if it moves its the wheel barring, if not its the ball joint

to check the u-joints park on flat ground chock wheels, put tranny and t-case in neutral and try wiggling the axle shaft at the knuckle if there is play the u-joint is bad
