Default 1997 Diesel Woes

Hi Everyone.

I am new to this forum. Looks great.

I have a 1997 2500 4 by 4 diesel. 5 speed. It currently has 300 000 kms on it. It has been a great truck and has done more than it's share of work for me. I am sad to report she is a little sick right now.
It started with progessively harder to start. I had to touch the pedal a little to get it to start. Had to plug in on any nights colder than -10 cel. One day I was driving down the driveway and it just stalled. Then
it was had to start and finally went. I waited a while an then it seemed to drive fine. Now it is very difficult to start. It must b einside or plugged in and even then it is a rough start for 30 seconds or so.

I just had the manifold heater relays replaced.

How do I know that both heaters are working properly?

Does anyone have any ideas what else it could be. The mechanic mentioned it could be fuel pump or injector pump?

Thanks for any advice.

Does sound like glow plugs, but as for the stalling it could be some other stuff, but like he said post up in the Cummins forum on this website and those guys will probably know for sure!

It uses a heater grid to heat the incoming air. The wait to start is to give the grid time to heat up.

also insted of it being the glow plugs, maby its that heater grid that may need to be replaced

How long since you changed the fuel filter?
Could be a weak lift pump too
The newer Cummins 24v and common rail systems all use air intake heaters.
Check for power at the Intake heater on a cold start, and measure the resistance of the heater grid with an OHM meter.
Whats your idle speed in gear? If it's too low that can cause hard starting too.
