On the contrary, cooling the heads does cool the combustion chamber, as they are a part of the heads. Unless your saying it doesnt cool the combustion charge, which I agree with.

Thats awesome that the flexalite fans work that well.
Yeah, it was combustion charge I was refering to, gas'll burn at the same temp. It seemed as though the conversation was getting convoluted and confused about what actually got cooler, I wanted to clarify where I was coming from.

Actually I'm not running the flex-a-lite fans, just the controller. I have a 16" proform puller on the back and a 14"pusher on the front of the A/C condenser.
No problems yet. Damn cold A/C in the summer though.

the discussion just show why
aircraft gasoline engines (some of which are indeed water cooled)
have both exhaust gas temperature gauges
and cylinder head temperature gauges
...and that smart pilots know how to use this info
to get better fuel economy.

The thermostat sets the minimum temperature.

100% correct

If your engine runs at 220 during normal driving switching to a lower temp thermostat isn't going to fix anything. It will only delay reaching the same 220 temp.

In a properly flowing system with the correct capacity radiator you may be able to decrease operating temps.

SO if I run at 195 most of the time with a 195 thermostat installing a 180 may lower temps to around 180. If it runs hotter than the thermostat temp it won't fix jack.
As stated above thermostats set min temp and cannot limit max temp. Once the thermostat opens fully the rad has to be able to shed the excess heat.

I tried it and didn't experience any performance increase my winter heat sucked and I dropped mpg a tiny bit. I put the original factory 195 back in for good

If someone was looking to start a small home business
selling engine performance parts
an electric adjustable thermostat that would go in the radiator hose
and allow you to remove the stock thermostat
is a useful mod to sell
but no one seems to be offering one.

With an electric adjustable thermostat you would want to monitor the TPS
and fully open the thermostat when the throttle goes past 80%
for the performance boost.

For slightly better MPG at highway cruise
you would want to allow the vehicle owner to set his prefered temperature
and people would gradually learn for themselves that hotter gives a slight gain.

It is a niche in the market that is waiting to be filled.

This is the kind of product
that you could pass SAE tests
showing it improves both max hp and fuel economy

Established companies like Snow Performance and Evans Cooling
might even endorse your product
as it might enhance theirs.
