blown a fuse...need advice
well i wired my CB to the power outlet so i wouldnt have to have the plug in all the time. well, i blew the I.O.D fuse, twice now. I can't figure out why, the power outlet still works as well as my CB, but the radio, cab lights, dome light, cargo light wont work. what am I doing wrong? can i put a higher amp fuse in its place (currently 10)?
thx guys

id bet that when you were wiring something up with the cb that you might have disturbed some wiring and it might be blowing that fuse. go back and retrace your steps and see if you notice anything. good luck
yeah thats what were going to try. cause i could really care less about my cab lights and stuff, but my radio....anything but my radio. so i'll try that i guess. any other suggestions?
i blew a fuse when i wired my clearance lights into my headlamp switch,i just steppedup afuse (20 to 30) and it fixed it. just try that.

upping the amperage on the fuse doesnt always fix it. fuses are there to protect your electronics. if too much amperage is flowin to your electronics it could destroy them and catch them on fire. they are there for a reason. if fuses are blowin, trace the wires, there is a short somewhere
I agree with marionso14. that might be a bad idea. Why didn't you just hot wire it? Its actually better to hot wire a cb cause you shouldn't get as much background noise/interferance from your truck.
BTW marionso14I totally disagree with your avatar.

Go back thru your wiring.
What I use is a plug and wire that has a cigarette lighter - plug on the other end.
It has it's own fuse built in line. Bought it at a T/A truck-stop for under 10 bucks.
I use the cigarette lighter instead of the Power-Outlet do to the fact the Power-Outlet
is always hot, even when the truck is off. My Cigarette lighter out-let turns off when the truck
is off. Don't have to worry about turning off the CB when I climb out of the truck.
Also makes it easier to take the CB out if you want.
