The fuel filter is in the tank. I know the newer fuel pumps you buy have a different kind of filter than the original equipment did. The best way to remove the fuel pump is to remove the bed of the truck. Sounds extreme but it takes less time than dropping the tank. I don't know on the fuel injector preasure.

I've dropped the tank quite a few times and it's not that hard.

The fuel pump assy has an internal filter, a fuel filter sock on the bottom, and then the pressure regulator that acts like a third in line filter. I have an old pump assy that I have not played around with to see how it opens.

ive often wondered how hard it would be/if it would be possable to remove the filter(s) in the tank just leaving the pump then put a good inline filter that i could change whenever i felt like

It is surprisingly easy to loosen the cargo box bolts on the passenger side
remove the 3 bolts on the driver side
carefully watch the license plate holder to keep from scratching it
and gently push the spare tire hoist drive in
and then the cargo box can be jacked up 45 degrees
to get at the fuel pump assembly.
