fisrt off, repair/ replace the o/d button and location.
then look for loose grounds on the chasis, block, and trans.
the button may be worn, the wires could be slightly shorting.
were ya in cruise at the time??
could be the tps, or any number of sensors.

I agree that cleaning the electrical grounds
especially any that have that 'green crud'
that electricians have given the name 'green death' to,
may help if the problem continues after the button has been changed.
When the O/D button is pushed
the PCM computer closes an internal swithch which
completes a ground circuit to the o/d solenoid in the trans.

Look near the PCM computer
and there should be at least two grounds nearby
and those two are perhaps the most important.
Trace the black ground wire from the battery negative terminal to where it is bolted
and clean that connection at both battery and frame ends too.
Let's hope it is not a bad solenoid inside the trans.
