I emailed Summit racing and they told me I could not run the Round Mopar air cleaner on my 2001 1500 5.2

Is there some custom mods to build to be able to mount a round air cleaner?

Summit is correct if you try to install the kit exactly as it comes. The custom mod you need to do is the s-bolt and the standalone breather. Those are not supplied with the kit, but are required to make it all work properly.

I got my Edelbrock air filter to fit and seal perfectly using a 1/2" air cleaner spacer and I just bent the 1/4-20 bolt into an "S" shape with soft wood vice and rubber mallet. My last question is what to do with the hose that attached to the stock air intake. Should I buy a mini Filter and hose clamp it on or do I not have to. Im not sure what that stupid hose is, pls help me out again guys. Thanks for the help so far.

Pardon the link - I have gathered a list ofsome various K&N round filter components.

As far as I'm aware the 5.2L/5.9L motors in the Ramhave the clearances for the base plate as they do with the Dakota. The best base plate I've found is the one that doesn't lower the filter, the opening offsets the platetowards the front of the hood by a couple of inches - you will just barely clear the intake manifold bolts, alternator, and air conditioning components. Dodge Dakotas can run the 14"x2.81" filter just fine underneath the OEM hood, I'm not positive but I'd assume there's at least equal clearance under the Ram's hood.

I currently usethe 14"x4" filter along with my M1-4bbl and Zex plate, but I have an aftermarket cowl hood.

there is one main diffrence with the dakotas and the rams, the air cleaner sits back under the cowl a tad, so even with a cowl hood, it doesnt do us much good.

as far as the breather, for my setup I just got an edelbrock breather for the valve cover and shoved it in there. Tight fit, but it goes in with some force. Also, you could run the line into the fitting on the bottom of the air cleaner. Most air cleaners have a hole, or a stamped spot where you can punch out the hole, and put a fitting for the breather.
