Transmission shift problems; And its getting worse, fast
I have a 95 Ram 318 with the automatic tranny. Here is what I know.
About a month ago it started shifting hard at around 40 mph. Power and acceleration started to disappear.
Went home and came back for thanksgiving, and now I am having problems at all speeds. It is very sluggish and I have noticed the shifting is bad not only in the higher gears, but lower as well. Its like you will reach a speed where it wants to shift, where it would normally shift...but you then have to fight to go 5-10 mph faster to finally get it to kick in. Also at highway speeds to shift into OD it takes several seconds and it is like 2 different shifts. At highway speeds if you brake slightly while accelerating it also makes a different hum from the tranny.
Fluid level was good, but had recently gotten low.Color and smell are fine, but it might have some very small bubbles.I topped it off again with ATF +3. A few months ago when I had it towed and they disconnected the tranny from the differential about a half quart of fluid leaked out and the tow man said "man, thats f-ed up" - but it worked ok at the time so I ignored it.
What do yall think?
