Default coolant leak

I am having an issue with coolant leaking and over heating. I have been filling up the truck every other day with coolant, I thought it might be a bad hose or clamp. From what I can tell, aal hoses and clamps look fine. It seems to be coming from around the front of the engine on the right side. I have not gotten a chance to get under there and inspect further. Is the thermostat housing in the front right mid to lower motor? Could this be the cause. The truck has 300K miles worth of grime on it, so I sprayed it with some cleaner to inspect it tomorrow.
I am ruling out a blown head gasket due to the condition of the oil looking brand new. If it was a cracked block, wouldnt I also get coolant in oil and when I add more coolant it seems to run fine until it runs out.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance!

welcome to df... if the truck has 300k miles it time for a new thermostat no matter what... get a 180 degree with a new gasket. yes it is in the middle front of the engine, to repalce the thermostat you have to remove the alternator. Not really sure what the problem could be if it runs fine till it runs out... good luck

my truck has over 350k onit. I had a mysterious coolant leak. then the side tank on the drivers side blew a tank seam!

check that rad for any signs of leak or residue from a leak. replace the rad and heater hoses also.

like i said remove the alternator.

if you can change spark plugs than this is easy.

you will need
- RTV sealent for both sides of the gasket
- thermostat gasket
- 180 degree thermostat... helps keep your engine cooler ( its 195 degrees now)
- tools = correct socket, ratchet and an extension to reach the bolts

sand the steel radiator tube flange so that its smooth. Its an easy job removing everything the worst part is getting the steel radiator tube back in. Then install the alternator and check for leaks.

GOODLUCK

I would not advise it. It is just masking a real problem. If you plan on keeping it long term you should fix it right. Just my .02

Thanks. Yeah spark plugs are a no brainer. Im just trying to determine how to go at it before tomorrow. I like to have a plan of attack.
