Default RE: 01 Tranny seal leak and intake manifold leak

I installed the Fastman 50mm throttle body on my 01 Ram today. Unfortunately, I still have the intake manifold leak after the dealer supposedly fixed it in December of 2007. Thanks to you guys, I shined my maglite flashlight down the throttle opening before Iinstalled the Fastman and low and behold I have ponding of oil at the back of the manifold! Talk about P!Ssed! Now I have to go back to the dealer!@? I'd rather fix it right if this is how long these Mopar intake gaskets last. What would you do about this?

I ordered a APS kit. I'd check into either that or the Hughes if I were you and didn't want to have that problem again.

APS is the way to go. Now to check with Dodge and see if they will fix the manifold with the APS kit.

You can pull the intake out in less than an hour with hand tools. You put the APS kit on with hand tools. It isn't all that hard.. Easily done in a day. Unless you are doing the mod. I remeber you said Metaire Dodge wanted to charge $110 for a program. I doubt they would put in an aftermarket kit either. A regular mechanic will. Seems like dealership mechanics aren't much better and with the 2nd gen dodge being such a high unit vehicle many mechanics have experience with them, and I think Every mechanic has come across a 318.

Plus its fun to DIY you appreciate the truck more when you put elbow grease into it.

I have my 01 Ram back at the Dodge Service whom supposedly did the intake/belly pan repair in December 07. I say supposedly because I can not find any "new" rtv at the manifold and it has oil ponding inside the intake. Anyway, it has a 12mos./12K mile warranty on the repairs so I'll check it again after this repair.

What should I have the dealership change while they are f-ing around the intake?

I would have the stealership check and replace the CTS (coolant temp sensor) and the IAT(intake air temp) sensors , both of these are on the manifold itself. clean the injectors, and do a tune-up. Just my .02.

See the good thing about diy is, that I paid $1000 for parts but I got a new water pump, timing chain, front and rear seal, 50mm fastman, all new gaskets everywhere there is one, kegger mod, new sensors, new tensioner, plenum kit(never use the gasket and stock pan, its gonna leak again), new plugs and wires, and cap and rotor and other stuff such as tint and a rear-view camera. Mostly off ebay, they have tons of dodge parts, whatever else from Hughes.

I took my time, when I had it, and I have the luxury of having other rides. My truck runs like a champ, started on the first try. I also cleaned every part I took off, and had the satisfaction of knowing exactly what was done to my truck. Sure I ran across snags, but I always found the answers here.

The only change I would make to the diy for the plenum repair, is to take of the shroud and fan so you can climb into the engine bay.

Default Intake manifold leak...uh...oh...blow by!!!!!

The dealership checked the intake and said it was intact. The rep said I have blow by! Worn rings caused by any number of problems. He said itcould last 40 to 100k more miles before any problems. I told him I am havingproblems since I bought itwith the whistling andwhoosing noise.

I am starting topanic. Now I need to negotiate with the dealer I bought it from a couple of months ago and see if I can get out of this. I have never had this happen before and need some pointers on dealing with them.

Well he is full of SH*T, If theres oil pooling in the intake the plenum gasket is blown

They are trying to screw you, by saying you need a new motor

It was probably the same mechanic who did the plenum repair and he is just trying to cover his A**
