Default PICS of the MSD

Here are some pics i took of my MSD 6a box with MSD ss blaster coil #8207 , the coil is mounted on the pass side firewall just above the AC line , now the coil wire is routed away from the engine ... power wise?yes you can tell a big difference the truck seems to pull better , its well worth the $$$ .if i get ask enough ill do a DIY but its basic stuff , spark plugs im using autolite 3924 gap at .045 thats .010 above stock with a good burn , i also have autolite 3923 (cooler) spark plug gap at .050 sitting on deck as far as my MPG stayed the same that mite change if i leave my foot out of it but she pulls good..

Did you runan inlineresistorwiththe SS coil? I think that's recommended to keep from frying the PCM, due to the lower resistance associated with that particular coil.

never heard of that , only time you run something like that is if you got a run on..
Note:
If installing the Blaster SS Coil to a points distributor or a non-current limiting ignition
system without an MSD Ignition, a 0.8 ohm ballast resistor is required (MSD PN
8214). The resistor should wire in series along with any factory resistors on the positive
coil wire

I think it was something Shott had recommended as there were guys from a few years back asking about fried PCMs and found that a common link was the aftermarket coil. Shott mentioned it in his article as a possible warning only, but the MSD site only refers to the 2 specific systems you described above.

It's food for thought if nothing else. You might want to just double check what's going into the pcm and how that compares to what should be going in.

I dont know why the PCM would be reading the coil ? the PCM is reading or seeing the MSD box , the box is seeing the coil.
rember i didnt use any wiring harness everything is hard wired , unless you are just using a coil then i can see problems with the PCM and if thats the case why would any one use the direct replacement blaster coil with no problems ? also ive been using MSD for awhile this is nothing new to me and i seen people use the blaster coil up to years of 2000 .. plus when i went with the SS i called and ask MSD if there be problems and they said as long as its used with the 6a ..but ill hook up the reader and see what the PCM is reading

when i put mine in i did a laod of research.. steve was doing his at the same time and we both found out and agreed that the the SS coil had much lower input resistance then say the blaster 2 coil (the one i went with) and even with the blaster 2 coil i was poppin codes for a coil and had to put the tach adapter in to resolve that...

not sure why MSD would tell you to run that... theres gotta be a reason for guys burning up there PCM's through the use of the SS coil

If using the coil alone ,then yes the could be problems... but what does the PCM see ? the coil or the 6a ? here again is some info from MSD
MSD Ignition and Late Model ApplicationsThe following Blaster Coils can be used in stock applications, but do not include a ballast resistor. When you are using an MSD Ignition Control, the Ignition is responsible for delivering the voltage to the coil so a ballast is not necessary.

So lets break this down , using a blaster coil or a ss coil alone you need a ballast.. if using the box 6a you do not need it cause the PCM to the 6a to coil . why do people burn up there PCM ? maybe they just added a coil ? But look at indy ram ? he has just a coil but maybe he has a ballest maybe not , maybe he will chime in on this.. Ill assume here maybe the people who did burn up there PCM after the msd install mite got a short somewhere ? or just didnt know what the hell they where doing ?
