Generally speaking the poly plows are heavier in overall weight than the same size all-steel plow. Poly plows require additional steel frame reinforcement behind the poly moldboard. The poly moldboard prevents snow and ice (plowbergs) from clinging to the face, and the poly doesn't rust-therefore, it is lower in maintenance costs.

I always thought that it was bad to put a snow plow on a 1500....

I mean you see them on S-10s and stuff but it seems to me that the front end and suspension wouldn't like it so much...

I've had a few mechanics tell me that as well
so idk is it bad?

I've had both, 1500's and 2500's with and without plow prep group. They all work fine. Both will carry a plow without any modifications to the front end. The 2500 will obviously hold a heavier plow than the 1500. I've used only western plows, 8' on 2500's, and 7.5' on 1500's. The difference w/the plow prep. package is a beefed up alt. and H.D. cooling system. For normal residential plowing any of these trucks will work fine, but for commercial plowing the 2500 would be more favorable.
