Default Tire Size

I have an 01 1500 ext. cab 4x4. Looking to put new tires on after the level gets done in the summer. I am going with the bfgoodrich mud terrains, but just wondering what the ideal size for me is. My truck comes stock with 245/75/16's and with the level, I am going with 265/75/16's minimum. Not a huge difference, but bigger is better right? lol jk. They also have a set of 33's which are 255/85/16 which would be nice too. Since I'm putting the level on, as far as I know the 33's would fit no problem. Here is the deal, I have 3.55 gears stock and will not do a gear swap. I have looked at the numbers and it seems that I would be around 3mph off @ around 60 or 70 with the 265's, and about 5-6 off again at 60 or 70 mph for the 33's(I forget the exact). I am siding towards the 265's, but am really thinking about the 33's. I mean how much will the 33 bog the truck down? It should have less rolling resistance than the 265's, just harder take off. If I did the 33's, how hard is it to set the speedo to accomodate. haha... no pos hypertech speedo fix!

255/85/16s or 285/75/16s will fit just fine.

Any dealership can recaliberate your speedo for you but it's not honestly worth the price. Just remember at 60mph you're going 65. Not a big deal.

Oh and to answer your other question. No it wont bog it out too bad with 3.55s but I woulnd't go any bigger than 33s with it.

Padodgeram has 35s and 3.55 gears and he still gets around okay.

rpm difference gonna be small with 33s.. when i went from 265/75 16 to a 35" tire i only gain 2" of tire... i had my MSD box in for service and i tell you what , she was a dog now i have it installed shes a hell alot better.. this spring ill be doing the 4.56 gears . my mph is off by 3 so use this u mite be off by 5 mph just rember when going thru town just to slow a little , no mph gauge is gonna give your true speed not even from factory , there snow outside and i must play see u all later on !!!!!

the difference between the two tires are .2"in height, whichim not even gonna notice. But the 285's are obviously wider. I guess wider would be better? Really the only reason the 255's are good is less rolling resistance and theoretically less strain on the axle? ... just curious on what you guys thought. I do not want the tires to rub at all at full lock. You say they will fit fine. But if the majority of your use was on road / weekend warrior, would you choose?

I run 305/70/16 BFG mud terrains on my 2000. I am using my stock wheels. The tires do not stick out and with my 355 gears I can still smokem abit @ the stop lights. The tires throw my speedo off about 5 mph...AND they look sweet AND I have'nt gotten stuck yet.........
