Default changing trans fluid

hey yall i was wanting to know if the middle plate ( atleast thats what i think it is but it really looks more like a gasket to me) is supposed to stay on the pan when i put it back together. i didnt think about buying a book before i started to change the fluid because ive done it in other vehicles with no problem and now i have no way to go buy one. but thats my question is the middle part the gasket dodge uses or is it like a cushion plate that needs to go back on there.

yea i picked up valvoline atf4 last nite i could only find 5 quarts tho i read some where that sometimes it takes 5 but at times 7 to refill it so hopefully its only 5. and as the gasket goes on the pan i just read it says to reuse the reusable gasket but the gasket doesnt look to reusuable it really looks like a piece of plastic with rubber o ring type layout in it and a whole bunch of silicone on both sides.

scape all that **** off the pan, and around where it bolts up with a putty knife. Don't use a knife or a screwdriver cause you'll **** it up an it will leak. I'd use RVT sealant around the new gasket too if I were you. Unless it's some kind of rubber one. I woulnd't even use one of those.

I just did my tranny filter and stuff not that long ago, and I thought I was F**ked when i opened the box... there were three gaskets, and none of them were right, until I realized I had been holding the right one upside down, but yeah, I threw that piece of crap gasket thing that was on there away, put a little orange RTV around the gasket to hold it in place while I put the pan back up, and then ended up spending a fortune on Valvoline +4. Trannys loving me now though, more so than it did before.

Remember to torque the filter screws to 35 inch lbs., and the pan bolts to 150 inch lbs (17 Nm).

here is a DIY i did up on it a while back https://dodgeforum.com/m_901049/tm.htm

there is 2 gaskets because it is the same filter as a jeep but a jeep has a different pan, hence the different bolt pattern

wow 150 pounds thats more that lugnuts is that right well anyways i changed it used the rubber one from the kit and some silicone seemed all good then sat morn i parked in my drive way which is at a desent slant and after a couple hours had some oil on the ground so crawled under there to check it out and tighten some bolts well none of em were loose but i did tighten em some more and the leak got worse then just by wipeing where the oil was coming from i guess i some how moved the gasket and it started streaming out so i dropped the pan again cleaned the hell outta everyting and used the reuseable gasket and haveing had any problems yet knock on wood lol but yea are the bolts really supposed to be 150 pounds cuz its cast and really do not want to strip anything out
