Default TPS Mod questions

has anyone here experimented with the mod in a way to get better mileage out of their trucks? we all know that .7~.75v is ideal for better throttle reponse but the thought occured to me that maybe if it were backed off to say .6~.65 it might lean it out a tad at cruising throttle positions...

any thoughts?

Default RE: TPS Mod questions

Steve,
My original voltage was .62 (factory). I used to blame the transmission for never learning how to shift in all the years I had it. Best MPG I ever got was 13ish. Bumped the TPS up to .75 and somehow gained 1MPG on average the last 2 months! Go figger. I don't notice anything as far as better throttle response at all, however, the shift points are raised to where the OD doesn't kick in until 40 or over OR if I back off the throttle slightly as in reaching my cruise speed. That's how it should be. Used to drop into OD anywhere around 30mph without even going to 3 lock. It would no sooner hit 3 and immediately blur through to OD. That was probably lugging the engine at low speed and rediculously low rpm.
Been thinking of kicking it up to .8-.85 to see what happens. Will let you know if it adds or looses MPG's or blows shift points all outta whack. Keeping in mind, I'm all stock except for this.
Anyone else?
WC

do it... cant take but 5 minutes or so... I'm curious now. I think the higher the voltage, the more the pcm thinks your into it and will want to richen/lean the mixture...

On the surface that may sound like a fair assumption. However, don't forget, the PCM is looking at a variety of other parameters too.
I can adjust it up tomorrow, but, it may be a while before any results are in. Unless it just becomes undrivable and I have to put it back. Actually, I'm just happy that I'm finally shifting correctly. I haven't pulled the travel trailer yet with this, but, I'll bet it does better on accelerating/shifting.
Maybe someone else has messed with it before and has results and will chime in later.

cheep mod to mention is to wrap your fuel rails with insulating tape from thermo-tec not sure how much benifit it is by itself but I did this as part of a fuel cooler install/mod and gained 6% better fuel economy out of it. measured that on a trip to Washington state from Cali...

cold fuel will keep detonation down, allowing more timing. I would LOVE to see how the cooler/rail mod would do on a forced induction motor.

OK, its been a little over a month since I raised TPS voltage from .75 to ~.85. Have NOT noticed any difference from the previous setting either in response, shifting, or fuel mileage...all still the same. I can't squeeze any more out of this thing without drilling through completely and messing everything up. I'm stuck at 85 ish.
Has anybody been able to do any better?

How do you increase your voltage on your TPS?
