TPS Mod questions
Are you planning on going the other way with it??? thinking .6 to .65 v would be the other limit. the good news there is the mileage didnt get hurt by going too far. I think by going down you may lean it out a tad so have a listen for pinging, if it's pinging then bump it back up some until it goes away. another thought here is combining the crank mod & the tps mod... you may be able to adjust the base timing some to go either way with the mileage & power. a combination of the 2 may be found to get better mileage and still get acceptable performance.
Steve, .65 is where I started from the factory. The truck ran ok, but the OD shift was too low. That improved with the mod so I'm gonna leave well enough alone.
On the other hand, I adjusted my trans. cable back a little and that made ALL the difference in the world to the shift points other than OD. Now I hit 2nd at about 18-20mph; 3rd at around 30mph (lock shortly thereafter unless I'm still in accel. mode) and OD still at or above 40 depending on pedal. And it's like the transmissions of old where if you let off the pedal a little, it'll shift! If you stay on it, it won't! FINALLY after 7 years this thing has learned to shift!
I see what you are trying to do though. There are forces here that are just itching to get me to mod this thing further. Well, I aint bitin'! Besides getting to the CPS is too much of a pain so I think that's trying to tell me something. About the only modification I would consider is a fastman. Tried and true, I guess.
But I do know of this one guy on the forum that'll try anything. Maybe you could get him to do this. Especially since he's already got the CPS mod done. He'd make a good guinea pig. I remember this one he fell for, ehr, tried. Something to do with Chevy brake cylinders on the rear drums that ended up costing him a brake job. But he got over it and moved on to roller rockers and a whole laundry list of upcoming events. And his betrothed doesn't seem to mind a bit!

Steve,
My original voltage was .62 (factory). I used to blame the transmission for never learning how to shift in all the years I had it. Best MPG I ever got was 13ish. Bumped the TPS up to .75 and somehow gained 1MPG on average the last 2 months! Go figger. I don't notice anything as far as better throttle response at all, however, the shift points are raised to where the OD doesn't kick in until 40 or over OR if I back off the throttle slightly as in reaching my cruise speed. That's how it should be. Used to drop into OD anywhere around 30mph without even going to 3 lock. It would no sooner hit 3 and immediately blur through to OD. That was probably lugging the engine at low speed and rediculously low rpm.
Been thinking of kicking it up to .8-.85 to see what happens. Will let you know if it adds or looses MPG's or blows shift points all outta whack. Keeping in mind, I'm all stock except for this.
Anyone else?

Hey wayne, what was that clip that you used as a spacer. I am having the same shift problems. I took my truck in to the shop a couiple years ago and asked them to replace the cable, and they said that it was fine. But my truck has 144,000 miles on it (72000 on the new tranny)

Well, I did have both the Crank and TPS mods going for a little bit. Then my TPS blew out while driving and I lost OD completely and I got the P0121 code. I think the TPS might have been on it's way out anyway as I was having odd shifting and throttle issues before I modded the TPS. Got a new one and everythings been fine, but I have been leary of modding it. I thought maybe I didn't tighten her down enough and it slipped, so I reinserted the old one and tightened it really tight. It threw the same code within a quarter mile, so I'm thinking maybe the old TPS was just done. I could try it again on the new one. Wayne, have you had any issues with yours?
The truck definitely drove better with the TPS set to .72V which is the highest I could get it to hold a steady voltage. Like to get it back there if I could.
And yes, I did grenade a rear brake drum.
And what the future Mrs. doesn't know won't hurt her.
And finally, I am a picky eater.
