Keep the v10 - have raw power but sink your budget, or a 5.9, pay slightly less gas but can expand the power farther with more accessories. But I'd stick with the V10 if milage dont bother you, theres something about pulling up with a V10 that makes some drivers cringe. I can just barely afford the 7-8mpg city but as a college student, its braggin rights and a status symbol. my .02

Well from my experience, my truck has 169,XXX miles on it, doesnt burn a drop of oil, V10s have the diesel transmission so the reg Dodge tranny problems everyone hears dont apply. And so far from my experience, the V10s are fairly reliable. Towing wise, my truck gets 13.34 mpg hwy regulary unloaded, pulling my parents 30 ft. camper trailer I get ~12 mpg (one test, 50 mile trip).

Keep the 10. The trans is no big deal I have a 5.9 and it has the 47re trans. I would kill for the 8.0.

it al depends what you want out of a truck, do you haul/pull lots? then the v10, do you like 5 speeds, the 5 speed is a better tranny than the auto reg cabs, ex caps long short box...

ORIGINAL: wotansmopar

...V10s have the diesel transmission so the reg Dodge tranny problems everyone hears dont apply...
auchually v10s have just as many tranny problems as the rest,

funny you should mention that they have the same tranny as the diesel, whitch they do, however the max input rating of the tranny is 450 FT LBS, the V10 from the factory specks puts out 450 FT LBS, and the diesel puts out 460 FT LBS...basically the tranny from the factory, acording to there specs is too week, however unless you start modding like crazy you shouldent have a problem with this, i just think its funny

depends what your looking for, and what you need, if your going to be running a lot more torque through it you'd wanna thing about a new one I've herd good things about ramzilla ones...the guys on the CTD forum would prob be able to recommend others as they usually are easily upgraded to put out a lot more power....

however for the average joe, a shift kit, large tranny cooler, trany temp gauge, and doing reg maintenance will all help to extend its life but it really all comes down to your luck

I would def. keep the v10. I have the 5.9L and I don't get but about 9 mpg. Ofcourse I have 37" tires and an exhaust leak but thats beside the point. Def keep the v10. wontansmopar is right...Raw Power.
