Default Installing gauges??

I am fixing to get an air/fuel ratio and trans temperature gauges. Which are the more accurate? The mechanical or electric ones? And... well to get them to work. What do you run them to?

I'm going to say the electric gauges. With the air/fuel ration gauges it really isn't gonna matter much though because all it really is is a constant light show. For the trans temp guage you should beable to hook it up to the existing temperature sensor if it has one. If not then you'll have to drill your own. Its pretty easy to find a DIY on this if you do a search. Personally as far as gauges go though I really like the mechnical ones because they're basic and I think they look better. But if you like the way an electric looks then I would go for that.

Electrics are the only way to go on any gauge IMHO. As far as the air to fuel goes if your just getting readings off the stock narrow band o2 it will not be that accurate. It will be ok at idle and cruising but WOT it wont read correctly. Need a wide band o2 (mines in my ypipe)if you want accurate WOT a/f ratio. Ive got an AEM digital/analogue a/f guage with Bosch wideband o2. My FAST stand alone engine management also reads a/f ratio but using a FAST w/b o2 that came with it (probably made by Bosch).

You can get the AEM dig/analogue for 300 at Summit with choice of face bezels now.

The FAST SAEM is substantially more (starts at 2k)

I have an AutoMeter trans temp gauge in my MP deep alum pan. Pan had ahole specfically for a temp sensor and the AM fit perfectly. Trans temps in the column pod, AEM is the top gauge in the pillar

Mechanical fuel pressure gauges must be run on the exterior of the vehicle cause you dont want a gas line inside the cab. Dont even know if mechanical trans temp is available. For the same reason it would have to be on the exterior. Mechanical A/F gauges do not exist.

Okay, so for the trans temp , how do I know if I have an existing transtemp sensor. I have the trans temp warning light underneath the air controls so there must be some kind of sensor.

Trans Temp
If you have a stock pan you will need to punch a hole in it for the sensor. Auto Meter supplies the sensor with the gauge so use that one. Stock sensor may not give appropriate voltage/resistance for the gauge to read correctly.

Hey IRM
Yeah been so busy with work n such barely had time to update my website let alone be on any of the truck chats . My pm's should work I think,,,if not start a thread incase it may help others
