Default Time for a Locker

I'm trying to score myself a locker for Christmas, and I'm feeling pretty indecisive here. I'm pretty sure I want it for the rear, due to the CAD system, if I locked the front axels then the front driveshaft would spin all time right? Not to mention the Dana 44 is weak enough without being locked. So that leaves the 9.25 which makes the situation somewhat easier. So here's what I've come up with.

Powertrax Lock-Rite Locker - $320, Easy installation. Heard some rumors about them grenading and destroying the rear differential though. Anybody have any personal experience with these?

Detroit locker - $600, Potentially a real bitch to install. Never heard anything bad about them.

What all is everyone running front and rear, and how have your experinces been with your equipment. Thanks in advance. This is not a decision I want to make the wrong way.

I keep hearing the same thing about the powertrax but, I've never talked to a person who actually had one explode. It's always the suppliers saying they explode. I havn't seen one bad review of them. Apperently there is two differnt models. One is cheaper and maybe the one that everyone associates with grenading. The other is made out of some special material and is supposed to click alot less. I'm leaning towards the powertrax just because of the easier install.

The other one is called powertrax traction system. It's suppose to be more road friendly. I think I'll try to dig up some more info for that one. The easy install is definetly a benefit because I don't have a garage and it's only about 40 degrees out.

Where you guys buy your stuff from? Or rather where will I get the best deal on the no-slip? I think I'm going to start looking on ebay first, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

There isn't many places to find it. You need to make sure to get the no-slip if your going with power trax. You can also try randysringandpinion.combut, I don't think that they carry the no-slip. There is also a differnt part number for the unit to be installed in a differntial that already has a stock lsd

my 2 cents...

ONLY put the locker in the rear. it will drive better, steer better, less chance of front end slide. also, a locker in the front will only be effective when axle is connected (CAD locked). If cad is unlocked, then the locker is only turning the drivers side wheel.

i've had very good luck with powertrax noslip. it will take a 2wd truck almost anywhere. its even better with 4wd. i seldom need/use 4wd anymore, with combination of powertrax and posi-lok (ability to run 2wd LO).

if money is no object, and you can afford $600-1000, go Detroit locker. If you want to conserve money, the powertrax is the way to go. mine's been great so far, no problems.

if you go detroit, understand that its a replacement of the carrier, and requires professional setup. i think its referred to as a full case locker. this is the strongest available option.

if you go powertrax, you are removing spider gears from within the stock carrier and putting in the locker guts. there is not as much strength in this type of contruction, and its not recommended for very large (> 33") tires and/or high horsepower.

buy here. its cheapest place. but not the best web site in the world. call them if you have questions, particularly if putting powertrax into stock LSD. its a different part number than what goes into a stock open.

You should really think about getting the powertrax no-slip. It's not that much more and you shouldn't have any problems with it.
