Default clicking when trying to start.

Tried starting my truck tonight and just got a constant clicking noise. A friend of mine said it was probably the starter but not the case. Too late to look into anything else tonight but would appreciate any thoughts as to what to look next.

your battery is probably just dead. Try jumping it. If it clicks but it doesn't crank that is most likley the cause. It could be other things but that's the first place to start.

I'll bring the battery in for testing. It did sit for a few days in the cold here in MN without being started and I'm not sure of the age of the battery. Thanks.

Clicking isn't usually the starter, but the starter relay. On these trucks, they are integrel. Sounds to me like it's the relay, but either way the whole thing will have to be replaced.

+1. mine started clicking, replaced the battery, still did it. so it was the starter. 70 bucks at advance when you bring your core back.

Thanks for all the advice. I took the battery in and it checked out alright. Got home and cleaned the battery cable ends up and the battery posts and sure enough it kicked right over (lovely sound being as how I was working outside in 15 degree weather) Must have been the cold moisture caused a bit of an issue. Thanks all for the advice. Did put a new starter in though so I know that shouldn't be going out any time soon.

Clean connections are a must. It's too bad you spent extra loot on a new starter that wasn't needed. In my world, that depletes the beer fund/gas fund. Yeah, I'm silly like that, but it's true.

Sand down the terminals until you don't see any more corrosion and then smear some dielectric grease on the terminals. That'll keep it from happening again.
