HELP torgue converter urgent!!!
ok well i think i blew my torgue converter tonight..well i was driving like normal and everything was going fine than out of no where..the RPMS shot up and the truck wouldnt move..it would just roll on its own motivation....so i coasted in a parking lot to do some tests..well reverse grabs BARLEY after 10 seconds of reving...D- forget about it.. 1- maybe every now and than, and 2- would grab but would take a while...the fluid didnt seem to smell burnt..but i did notice a real weaird noise coming from the converter..so i think thats the culprut..now is there anyway to test the converter to see if it is bad or not?? when it stops snowing ima drop the trans pan to check the magnets to make sure the clutches didnt burn up..ughhhhhh
ok i just got done playin around with it..well apparently when its cold it will go into gear fine and the truck will move, but it will make a real whinning noise ( like a power steering pump low on fluid) but it is coming from the converter area so i am guessing thats the issue..do you guys have any other ideas?
front oil pump in transmission it sounds like has lost prime/gone/going bad.
do a pressure test with a gauge and use the pressure test ports on the sides of the tranny housing.
the oil pump is not pumping fluid to clutch packs and bands, therefore, no gear engagement/only little engagement.
Drop pan and then do pressuret test and let us/me know of your findings.

ok does anyone have a picture or diagram for the ocation on where you connect it to the housing?how do you exactly do the pressure test on the pump? what tools are needed??and do you want me to drop the pan just to check for metal shavings or anything else? ..sorry but the only thing they didnt teach me in vocational school was trans/drivetrain.....but thanks alot for the reply
Check the pressure using a pressure gauge , there a small bolt on the passenger side at the back of the trans (servo) thats where you can check your low and reverse pressure... in 1st gear should have a pressure at 50 , reverse should be at 130 ..this is line pressure let me look for pics ...droping the pan wont do nothing the the pump is behind the TQ converter... In the DIY section , theres a merry xmas thread , download the PDF File and then you can start trouble shoting..

!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE OTHER TESTS WILL YIELD NOTHING IF THE FLUID IS NOT REACHING THE PUMP!!!!!
A filter change fixed the same problem in my truck. Just change the fluid and filter. The guaze type filter in these dodges like to clog a lot.
