Tranny Nightmare, Not Because it's 46RE
New Member, hello all..........
Came across this website about 3 weeks ago because of transmission issues and I have learned alot of valuable info. Thanks DodgeForum and Members for learning me things that a person should know about their vehicle.
Just need to vent a little, hope it's not against rules. Mid November started having "little" issues. No power from a stop, intermitent whine, OD acting weard, ect... Like I said, "Little" issues lol. Took it to shop I had rebuild it Aug. 05 and was told only thing they could see was speed sensor giving funny readings every so often over the 12 hours they had it. No prob, could do that myself. Still issues but between family, fast approching holidays, work and the fact that it was shifting with no "Major" problems forced me to put off a thurogh(?) examination. The "Maybe Speed Sensor" thing should have set off a warning because I never had a check engine light go off.
Although I change fluids and do most repairs myself, I opted to have a shop change the tranny fluid because they said they do a complete R+R flush using "Mopar" fluid in less time then I could (Note: I enjoy the view under my truck inspecting things, therefore DRAINING aprox. 6 quarts of oil might take about an hour, lol). Found out afterwards they used multi vehicle atf. I'm sure complaining loud and long enough would have got me comp'ed for the "Miss Quote" in words, but live and learn, I'll replace it as soon as I could.
Nov. 21, yes, the day before Thanksgiving, something went badly wrong. Halfway between home and work would not go to drive unless I rev'ed to 3000 and let off for a sec. Took the day off and headed side streets to home for my now 5 day weekend. Half mile from home.....Grenade. Temp and engine lights, no R,D, or 2nd. No need for the added expense of a tow truck because this tranny was getting REPLACED no mater what! No $2500 rebuild this time. Use the "Saved" money for proper Chrysler fluid and whatever else I might need or want. Maybe the use of common sense might have avoided this, maybe not. What's done is done, not gonna dwell. Again, live and learn.
After the holiday, family and next work week was when I found this forum and learned about 46RE, 47RE and the differnce between them. If your interested my 2 tranny remove/replace ordeal, the shop owner who tried to make me believe only he knew how everything worked and his knowledge of why my truck was the problem, let me know. I'd even be glad to post the link for his half page phonebook ad.
Well, it's been a long day...Goodnight fellow Ram Owners
