1.Try running a tap down the hole ans see if you can clean up the threads

2. The most popular alternator was 120 amp unless you have the base v6 with no options.

Did you fix your alternator? It's nice when you know how things work and can sometimes fix it for $10 vs a 200 alternator.

im gonna buy a new one since i dont really feel like pulling the thing apart to replace the diode trio, which i doubt a P.O.S. re-man like the one thats on it (previous owner) sells individually.

plus i can get a new one for like $160ish. 120 amp brand new, not a re-man.

and im pretty sure the re-man has a "lifetime warrenty" on it, so i can take it back and get some money out of it =] or use it as a core

Subject: Re:Will high amp 53008651 alternator bolt on in place of
smaller ones? (welder-generator?)

Hank, I have swapped out the two differnt alternators
a few times without any problem. The one that's on the
motor right now is a 53027913, ans the spare in the
tool box is a 53008651. I don't even remember what
came stock on my truck.

Hank , I think you brought this up a few weeks ago. It piqued my
curiousity. The '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9V8's did come with a 150 amp
alternator from the factory. I'm guessing it had largely to do with the
electric fan that they also came with. I just picked one
up to see if it would work on my Dakota. The answer is, no for any vehicle
before 1998. Different
connectors than on my '95. I thought there had been a switch in terms of
connectors
at some point and it turns out that it was in '98 and up. The part number
for anyone that is curious is 56041394AA for this piece.

I am currently running electric fans on the 117 Amp Alt that came stock. No problems and been running them since July. Just be sure to check the Amp pull on the fans. Most of the flex a lite fans pull far less amps than a Viper fan or the Lincoln Mark VIII fan that a few run. Not sure what the Ford Winstar fans pull.

Well I plan on adding a winch to my truck and going with 2 yellow top optima batts so that heavier alt is looking real good right about now.
