Default Hey guys need gear ratio help!!! lol

*sigh* Ok i have read a lot of posts on the gear ratio to tire sizes and couldnt get a direct answer to my problem by reading other posts so here it goes........ I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 (currently with 3.55 gears and 305/65/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers with stock height) recently my pinion bearing went out driving down the highway and just shredded my ring and pinion gears. I put a little time into looking into regearing to a higher gear ratio due to the change in tire size from a 265 size tire, from what i gathered when i went to a 33" tire from the 265 i just clobbered my MPG with keeping the 3:55s. I decided to go with a 4:10 ratio to maintain my "decent" fuel economy and to regain the performance and acceleration my truck once had with the smaller tires. I guess my overall question is did i make the correct choice in the 4:10s over the 3:55s with a 33" tire and will the gear ratio change "better" my fuel economy over keeping the 3:55s. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I work in the oilfield and do use my 4x4 on muddy and rocky lease roads so i will be changing my front gears over to a 4:10 as well, BUT for the most part this truck is drivin on the highway. Thanks again!

On the subject of gears... I want to put 4.10 gears in my ram, as it also has 3.55. I do plan on eventually getting aprox 3" lift with 33" tires, but not yet. I want to lift it, but not to an extreme.

Would 4.10 gears be good to do now? Gas mileage isn't all that important. I didn't get a 360 V8 for gas mileage.
How hard is it to put in new gears? Is there a how to some where on this site?
And finally, where do I find these gears? Should I get a locking diff while I'm at it?

On an off-topic note... Is there a thread with a list of recalls and descriptions anywhere?
