Default Oil pressure drops to 0

I have a 99 5.9 V-8 and the oil pressure gauge reads fine while driving, but at idle it will usually drop to zero, and then the "check gauges" light will come on. This gets old in traffic. The engine sounds fine, nothing abnormal. I have heard the sending units go bad, but it seems to work fine at speed, so is it something more? BTW- where the heck IS the sending unit? Could this just be a contact problem?

Dodge oil pressure gauges have never been know to be accurate. I'd check the pressure with a mechanical gauge first to see if you have an oiling problem or a gauge/sender issue.

your sending unit is going bad, it's located next to the distributor and is probably leaking into the wiring connector. Change it and you should be fine. Check the wiring to make sure oil hasn't wicked up the contacts and wires and clean them if necessary.

you need the sending unit socket to get it out. Plus if I remeber correctly, you'll have to lay on the engine as if changing the cap.
