Will a 3rd gen radio work in a 2nd gen?
I have just noticed the new in dash 6 disc MP3 players.
Has anyone wired one up to a pre 02 model?
I know the harness is different on the 02 and later but I wonder if it would work?
I'm sure you could wire it up, but you'll run into another problem...fitment. The newer radios are oval faced, and are much wider than the square faced units that fit in our trucks. It's doable though. I swapped in a 4 disk in-dash unit into my truck from a 2001 Chrysler car. Although it was plug and play, I had to do a little cutting on the dash panel. Here's a pic....as you can see, I did sort of a hack job on it, but I need to replace that panel anyway so looks weren't too important to me at the time. Once I get a new panel I do a nice job trimming it.

I've never had a problem with a stock radio in a Dodge. One thing about the stock system, it looks better in the dash.

I did the same thing with my 90 Ramcharger too. I replaced the factory tape player with a factory AM/FM/Cass./CD player out of a second gen Ram.
