Default Transmission issue

I have a 99 dodge ram and my transmission is acting strange. Normally it shifts from first to second at 2000 rpms, but recently it goes to 3000 rpms and sometimes i even need to let off the gas and back on then it shifts. Also when i stomp on the pedal it just revs up real high and just about redlines before i have to let off. Whats with all that?!!!

I had the same issue and asked indyramman what it was and he told me it was a design flaw. The more stuff you put on your truck the worse it gets so options could be either buying a new tranny or buy a tuner, shiftkit, or something else to help it...

almost ALWAYS adding a shift kit to a worn, old, high milage tranny will make it kill itself faster...

Sounds like your front clutch hub piston is leaking...

first do a TV cable and kickdown band adjustment and do a tranny service and let us know of your findings in the tranny pan.

Mine did that before it died, It was kind of like having a manual valve body in the tranny. If you held it to the floor it would hit the rev limiter, but would not shift, Your tranny will die in a few months if you dont do anything

I disagree. Ive put this too the extreme test! Im glad someone had brought this issue up. In August 14, 2007 My dadgot a work truck the same model. year, engine, size, a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 2WD Single Cab. He picked this up from my grandfather. It was stored away as of because my grandfather is in the air force and had no time to drive. Identical to my truck. just without the fancy paint job and mods. The truck only has 23,000 original miles. Both of out trucks are the 44re tranny. Now heres the test. I made 25 1/4 runs in my dads dodge and none of the runs tac the rev limiter out of 1st to 2nd. In another test i would say ive made about 100 1/4 runs (streetwise) with my truck tacing the 1st to 2nd always! Truck is still in full driving condition for a year after tacing it out numerous times. The work truck wasnt driven hard at all after the 25 runs I made (25 runs is an estimate im not on the dot guys) then it started to do the same here this last week. The truck only has almost 30k on it?!?! No way it couldve gone that fast. So i Emailed Dan Arcand who sells tranny's for himself. From his input i believe after so many miles or "wear and tear" into these tranny's they just start to do that. HINCE a design flaw in durability? If you are looking to go serious fast with your truck a fastman Tranny will cut it. But to solve this problem for $325 bucks. Go to www.fastman.com and send in your Valve Body (for there are 3 different kinds to the 44re and he doesnt know so he cant exchange) to have it worked on professionally. Hope my experience has helped.

welll my tranny is just about dead. today i went to put in in reverse, and nothing, then it slammed in and made a squeeling noise. Im taking it to the shop today, if i can get it there, but i think shes done. I am looking at a 04 cummins diesel now, but at the moment im a little worried about sticking to dodge. I have heard bad things about them breaking, ive only had mine for two years and it seems ok but did dodge fix their tranny problems in the new models?
