Just need some ideas here guys before it take it to the shop. I had a mechanic run a compression test he says number 7 is holdin at 70, and the rest are at 120. seems to me like this motor is way tired. its only got 79,000 miles on it too. im gonna run some cleaners through it today and put some of that restore in with an oil change. any other ideas of what could be the problem?

 

Tired at 79K?? I wouldn't run any so-called engine cleaner. Could be bad rings on that piston or an issue with the valves. So, you can either get away with re-ringing that piston or rebuilding the head.

 

low compression can be caused by a few things. rings, valves, cracked head, blown head gasket, ect... i would do a leakdown test on it to try andisolate where the problem is. what prompted you to do the test?

 

its been misfirin, and i took it to 3 different retards (shops) and they said its the tranny. which i knew was bull. so i took it to the tranny shop, they said its a mis under a load, did the compression test and found it.

VW- I have no idea why the compression is so low at 79k. And by "engine cleaner"i mean some of that mopar combustion chamber cleaner

 

Misfire can be caused by a sticking valve. Screw the combustion chamber cleaner. I'm betting you have a cracked valve seat or a burnt/sticking valve.

Don't know. If you need a new head, maybe $250 - $350 complete.

 

just get a fat chick to sit on it.

 

The "luckiest" and cheapest thing for it to be would be a bent pushrod or bad rocker arm,
but a bad valve, bad valve seat in #7 usually is so much money to fix that you just ought to buy a new cylinder head for that side.

 

Say what? If the rings are bad, that has nothing to do with the head. If the valve seats are bad, or even the valves are bad, it would be cheaper to recon the head provided the seat isn't cracked.
