Default RE: Deep Tranney Pan --46RE

Turns out: (1) Removed the torq. converter check valve and replaced it with a T fitting that accepts an an oil or tranny temp. gage. (2) From the T fittingthe plumbing is configured to go to a 11" x 14", 6 pass cooler mounted with (AL) bar stock in front of the air cond. evap. (3) From the cooler oil goes to the lower radiator tranny inlet. (4) From the upper radiator outlet it goes tothe factory oil cooler mounted between the air cond. evap. & the radiator. (5) it then travels to the tranny return line. (7) On the drivers side in front of the air cond. evap. is a 1250 cfm12' X 12" fan that isenergizedwhen the radiator temp reaches 200 deg. F. (the engine termostat is 180 deg. F). (8) The tranny pan has a drain plug. (9) For good measure the fan clutch and water pump were replaced.
Too make a long story short. It seems with or without a trailer, pulling long steep grades causes the tranny temp to be excessive(over 240 deg. F.). When the truck bogs down and the torq. converter unlocks , the tranny temp begins to rise. It seems the only way to control this is to increase the RPMs(3500-4000).On some grades it is necessary to go from 3'rd, to 2'nd, to 1'st and if necessary to 4 wheel low.

Back to my original question.
A recent Summit Racing catalog is advertising a Hughes deep trannsmission pan for a 46RE/47RE@ a price of$186 plus shipping. It claims 4 qt. extra capacity.

Has anyone had experience with this pan(HUP-HP1580+) page 203 in Jan. Feb. 2008 Summit catalog?

Are their other comparable tranny pans from other companies that are less expensive?

I know this is an ancient thread, but I just found this post. Priceless. THIS GUY IS VERY EXCITED ABOUT EVERYTHING! AND HE NEEDS YOU TO KNOW IT!
